Cosmonautics day | Valentina Tereshkova and Yuri Gagarin in Mexico (English version) By Giselle Bourgoing (Ledesma, 2022) Today, April 12th, we commemorate Cosmonautics Day because of the first space voyage by cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin. That is why today we will remember the interview that the cosmonauts, Valentina Tereshkova and Yuri Gagarin, gave to Radio UNAM during their visit to Mexico, my home country (Archivo Sonoro, 2018).  It is important to point out that during the famous space race, on April 12th, 1961, the USSR managed to send the first man into space, Yuri Gagarin, who would become the first cosmonaut (United Press International, 1961). Día de la cosmonáutica | Valentina Tereshkova y Yuri Gagarin en México Por Giselle Bourgoing (Ledesma, 2022) Hoy 12 de abril se celebra el día de la cosmonáutica, conmemorando el primer viaje espacial, por el cosmonauta Yuri Gagarin. Es por esto que el día de hoy recordaremos la entrevista que los cosmonautas, Valentina Tereshkova y Yuri Gagarin, brindaron a Radio UNAM en su visita a México (Archivo Sonoro, 2018).  Recordemos que durante la famosa carrera espacial, el 12 de abril de 1961, la URSS logró enviar al primer hombre al espacio, Yuri Gagarin, quien se convertiría en el primer cosmonauta (United Press International, 1961). Mientras que el 16 de junio de 1963, Valentina Tereshkova se convierte en la primera mujer en viajar al espacio, es decir, la primera cosmonauta (The New York Times, 2022).  Por lo que en octubre de 1963, Valentina y Yuri visitan la Ciudad de México para el congreso internacional de aeronáutica, en el que son recibidos por el presidente Adolfo López Mateos. Why I made this page | By Giselle Bourgoing (National Aeronautics and Space Administration, 2022) When I was in the first week of my first year of law school, I remember that a classmate sat next to me in a seminar, and asked me what I wanted to specialise in. I think I sounded a bit too confident when I said I wanted to do international space law. And I say that I perhaps sounded overconfident because when he said, “Awesome!
